Who is Christine Centenera? Her name has been thrown around the fashion circles and press for the past few years but even more so since she started working with the Kardashian West clan and with Virgil Abloh after his Louis Vuitton role. Today we dive into the incredible journey and talent of the style icon.
Christine was born and raised in Sydney, Australia and has Spanish-Filipino parents; she discovered her passion and her personal style at a young age. A fan of coats and jackets with bold line and strong colors, aficionado of deep green, grey and black hues and an avid collectors of the most beautiful shoe closet, she becomes the fashion editor at Harper’s Bazaar Australia in 2002 and 10 years later in 2012 she starts a new job as fashion director of Vogue Australia.
While working in fashion Christine became known as a street style star and a fashion week regular; photographed by the likes of the Sartorialist and Garance Dore, she’s admired for her flawless wardrobe and fashion flair. Her new position introduces her to a very influential group of celebrities and fashion insider that will carve her way to fame as her star is on the rise.
And so in 2016 she moves to New York and works remotely with Vogue Australia thus becoming fashion director at large all while launching her freelance career of dressing some of Hollywood’s biggest names like Cate Blanchett, Naomi Campbell, Elle Fanning and Cara Delevigne amongst many others.
Her most famous client is, of course, Kim Kardashian who reportedly pays her $1million retainer fee to dress her, but it is all worth it as Centenera gave Kim the ultimate makeover (or makeunder) moving her away from those hideous bodycon dresses and into neutral tones and cool clothing, Centenera is also responsible for styling Kim Kardashian’s cover for Vogue Australia shortly after the reality star gave birth to her second child. She has also consulted and styled campaigns and shows for Victoria Beckham, Estée Lauder, and Kanye West and it’s while working with Kanye that she met Virgil Abloh. Fun fact; Centenera has consulted to West on all his runway collections since his debut in 2011 and during this time Abloh was the creative director of West’s creative agency, Donda.
Virgil has been a big fan of her style and fashion direction. He was even a supporter of her newly launched venture in 2017 alongside her life and business partner Josh Goot, where they launched Wardrobe NYC, a new direct-to-consumer men’s and women’s fashion line.
The big news came this year as Abloh appointed Centenera to style his debut Men’s spring collection for Louis Vuitton, presented in Paris and with no surprise, the collection was a huge hit with acclamations from everyone in the fashion circle.
Christine has the Midas’ touch and she luck seems to be on her side as every project she works on opens up more doors thanks to her talent, passion and hard work; she has become the most influential behind the scene figures in today’s fashion world.
