Fashion fanatics stop what you’re doing because we’ve got some breaking news. Following last week’s departure of Kim Jones, French fashion house Louis Vuitton has appointed Off-White creator, Virgil Abloh, as its new Men’s Artistic Director.
“It is an honor for me to accept the position of Men’s Artistic Director for Louis Vuitton,” says Ghanaian-American Abloh of his new role. “I find the heritage and creative integrity of the House are key inspirations and will look to reference them both while drawing parallels to modern times.”
Whilst the brand remains faithful to its luxury heritage, it never shies away from making a statement which will no doubt transpire with Abloh. And we don’t have to wait long to find out as his first collection will take place in June During Men’s Fashion Week in Paris.
His haute street wear label, Off White, is known as one of fashions most talked about breakout brands. This led to highly coveted collaborations with the likes of Jimmy Choo and Moncler, proving the 37-year-old designer’s multifaceted ability to combine the world of luxury and street wear in perfect harmony. Something Louis Vuitton is no doubt expecting of his debut collection. “His sensibility towards luxury and savoir-faire will be instrumental in taking Louis Vuitton’s menswear into the future” said Michael Burke, Louis Vuitton’s Chairman & CEO.
The appointment indicates that high fashion is now taking street wear very seriously and we can’t wait to see what’s to come of his street-luxe hybrid.
