MET GALA RECAP: Best Looks

The first Monday in May, aka the biggest night in fashion, otherwise known as our very own super bowl, took place last night. The Met Gala is the big apple’s coolest night, and celebrities and designers fly in all over the world to be in attendance all in the name of fashion and art.

This year’s theme was, “Heavenly Bodies – Fashion in the Catholic Imagination” one that could have been somewhat controversial, but Anna Wintour made sure to have the Vatican’s approval. Fashion has often been influenced and inspired by religion, and it made complete sense that this year was the Costume Institute’s biggest exhibit yet! Andrew Bolton curated the exhibition and inside guests had the privilege to not only see designer pieces by Valentino, Cristobal Balenciaga and Gianni Versace, inspired by the theme but also pieces from the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican private collection, that have never been displayed outside the Catholic city before.

For the first time in a long time, guests dressed the part as they really understood this year’s theme. Thank God and the Holy Spirit for that #pondintended! Without further ado, here’s our best-dressed list:

1- Say hello to your new pope: This year co-chair and beauty mogul extraordinaire, Rihanna, showed up in a full hand beaded silver Margiela dress and cape. She completed the look with a Papal tiara that will be one for the books!

2- The Heroine of the Night:  Zendaya wore a complete Versace look and was there to slay! The former Disney star channelled Joan of Arc and gave us major Game of Thrones vibes. House of Zendaya, anyone!?

3-  A whole new meaning to the “chignon” accessory was given last night. Subtle but unforgettable, Blake Lively’s hairstyle was one of our favorites. Her bordeaux Atelier Versace gown had the right amount of transparency and embroidery. Not to mention that the details were perfection… that cross in the back was everything. Well done Donatella!

4- Bella Hadid showed up in an entirely black outfit which she co-designed with Chromes Heart. From her makeup to her hairstyle, she made us think of a Catholic Headmistress you wouldn’t dare to say no too.

5- The Holy-Virgin in person, that being said we don’t want to offend anyone, but have you ever seen a more innocent and elegant look at the same time? Rosie Huntington-Whiteley complimented her fitted Ralph Lauren dress with a simple gold halo. Her styling was immaculate, and the dark red lip was just what the outfit needed. The dress fit like a glove and the silk chiffon was embroidered just enough to blind us. Talk about less is more!

6- The Real Gucci Gang: Alessandro, Lana, and Jared. Can you think of a better angelic-meets fashion-meets an out of this world trio? If someone can interpret religion it’s Lana and Alessandro was the perfect person to help her achieve it. However, we wished she had held to the mask for the entire red-carpet. And for some reason, Jared and Alessandro reminded us of the baby angels often painted in church.

7- When the jewelry is made in India, expect nothing else but richness! Just couple hours before the Met, Elle USA launched a survey on their IG story. They were wondering: amongst all the celebrities, which one of them, the public was most excited to see? Priyanka Chopra was of course on the list, and she did not disappoint! It took her 3 hours to get into her Ralph Lauren dress, as she had to be hand sewn into part of the dress because of the veil and neckline.

Another unforgettable first. #MetGala #MetHeavenlyBodies

8- Black Panther turned Priest, Chadwick Boseman stunned on the red carpet,  wearing head-to-toe Versace. He truly embraced the theme and made it his own!

The Met Gala red carpet was so good this year our list could go on and on, but you know how much we like to be selective. However we have to say, as usual, Solange Knowles killed it… that Iris Van Herpen latex sculpted dress is what couture dreams are made of!  Top model, Imaan Hammam looked stunning in Zac Posen, with or without the cape we may add. And if there ever was such a thing as a fashionable nun, from the back, that’s exactly what  Imaan looked like.  Last but not least, the night’s fashion fairy godmother Anna Wintour, looked angelic and pure while wearing Chanel as usual.
