Shatha Essa In Focus

Shatha Essa Al Mulla has forged her own path in one of the toughest industries; since 2016, her womenswear label Shatha Essa has been a must-have in almost everyone’s closet.

With her timeless style that carries plenty of sophisticated embroideries; the brand seamlessly blends luxurious fabrics, impeccable tailing and meticulous attention to detail.

Born and raised in Dubai, she studied Art & Design at Zayed University majoring in Interior Design. With a love for art, interiors, graphic design, and fashion, Shatha started her career as part of the marketing team at The Dubai Mall, working on the first Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience, it was a chance meeting with legendary Vogue Italia Editor in Chief, Franca Sozzani, who inspired Shatha to change her course and venture into fashion design when she told her that “You can do something with that” while pointing at one of her pieces.

And from then, 6 collections later, Shatha is still breaking new grounds and as she says it best: “As a designer, I believe in a well-curated wardrobe that is not brimming with trend-based pieces but rather carefully filled with garments that are timeless and versatile“.

Her SS18 collection evokes modern femininity through intricate embellishments, fluid fabrics, and clean silhouettes. Inspired by a mesmerizing stroll through “Le Jardin des Serres d’Auteuil”, she references the vibrant garden colours, fluttering birds and shimmering rays of sunlight, creating a timeless and refined aesthetic.

The colour palette is fresh in shades of forest green, daffodil, blush, and white. Fabrics are lightweight and textured in raw silks, luxury blends and organza’s while new hand-embroidered techniques are introduced in the form of abstract birds and twisting ropes. Shimmering sequins are scattered on dresses while gold embellishments adorn abayas and tops.

Influenced by art, interiors, and travel, Shatha will continue to experiments with intricate embellishments, fluid silhouettes, and luxurious textiles. Mixing couture details with modern day wear, in order to evoke an elegant sensibility that will transcend seasons.
