Whether worn as religious observance or purely in the name of fashion, there’s no denying that the turban game is going strong. From Cleopatra to Marie Antoinette and Bianca Jagger, turbans have famously been donned by fabulously stylish icons and that’s very much still the case. Sarah Jessica Parker wore a fabulous piece in Sex & The City 2 while Eva Mendez, Vanessa Hudgens and Rihanna all stepped out on the red carpet sporting chic turbans that elevated their style status.
No matter the ensemble, be it a one-piece swimsuit or a floor-length gown, a turban adds an instant injection of glamour. It also serves as a stylish way to wear the hijab, especially when you’re on a European getaway. Opt for silk variations to keep you cool throughout summer climes and don’t shy away from prints; embrace the headpiece with all its eccentric glory. Gucci and Missoni, to name only a few, both have infinite options and seem to release a flurry of new season staples so keep your eye peeled. In fact, Gucci’s Alessandro Michele designed gorgeous replicas of Sikh turbans down the runway at the fall 2018 presentation in Milan along with babushka hoods, pagoda hats and headscarves that resemble hijabs and niqabs. But while the inspiration may have been drawn from the Middle East, there’s no doubt that this trend is a global one that will continue to flourish.
